Inspirations as a musician: Primordial silence before the music begins. A nothingness that is pregnant with anticipation, intention, and preparation, but also apprehension because you can't possibly know what exactly is going to happen.

Favorite orchestral work: Mahler's third symphony, Charles Ives' "Three Places in New England," Shostakovich's "Leningrad" Symphony, and anything by Haydn.

Hobbies: Homeschooling my daughter, Pearl (it's so fun it might as well be a hobby); learning to recognize bird calls, Mandarin Chinese, listening to great literature in Morse code, and reading.

How can the Orchestra make the world a better place?
1. By being passionate about the music and about playing together, otherwise who wants to watch?
2. By believing that the timeless power of orchestral works of genius is not dependent on the traditions and forms associated with them. Truly great music can withstand and even be liberated by exploring new contexts, juxtapositions, and creative adaptations.
